Bio Fuels

Biofuel is a clean burning alternative fuel produced from domestic, renewable resources such as vegetable oils (soy) and animal fats. Biofuel contains no petroleum, but can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel or heating oil to create a biofuel blend. It is usually referred to as "Biodiesel" when used in over the road applications and "Bioheat" when burned as heating oil. For example, B-100 is pure 100% biofuel. B-20 Biodiesel is 20% biofuel, 80% diesel fuel, a common blend for use in diesel trucks. B-5 Bioheat is 5% biofuel, 95% heating oil, which is the suggested blend for home heating fuel.

Why use Biofuels?
Energy Independence Biofuel is grown, processed, distributed and consumed domestically, helping decrease the country's dependence on foreign oil and aiding to the expansion of the US economy and agriculture.

Environmentally Better
Biofuel is biodegradable, nontoxic, renewable, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics which can cause acid rain. Although scientist agree that the key to global warming still lies in the reduction and conservation of energy,(see energy saving tips), Biofuels produce less carbon dioxide, the leading contributor to global climate change. When used in home heating systems, a 20% bioheat blend also produces less nitrogen dioxide, which causes smog. And because pure B-100 is the only fuel to be deemed non-toxic at any level and biodegradable it is less harmful to the environment in the event of an accident or spill.

Simple to use
No special equipment or alterations are needed to start using biofuel in any standard diesel powered engine. Other alternative energy sources can have expensive equiptment start up costs. Biofuel is one way we can all start doing our part today without any alterations or investments while working on other more efficient energy sources.

Our Experience with Bioheat
Chris and I didn't want to offer something to our customers that we weren't willing to try ourselves. This past Dec. we received our first load of B-5 bioheat. This is the suggested % of biofuel guaranteed to provide a seamless transition, and that is exactly what we have experienced. Chris and I have not noticed any difference in quantity or quality of our heating system. Biofuel can actually be good for your heating system. It has a natural cleansing and lubricating effect on the inner workings of you system. That is why the experts suggest you start slow with B-5. Biofuel also shouldn't be used in outside tanks due to temperature restrictions. It may be a slow transition away from our addiction to oil but at least it's a start.
